Welcome to the DREAM Family Hub!
As we navigate this time together, the maxim “DREAM Is Family” has never meant more. In these unprecedented times, the safety and well-being of the entire DREAM community remains our first priority. This website will serve as a resource for our scholars and families during our school closures. Here you will find important updates, information, assistance, and resources.
If you have any questions, please email email@example.com or fill out the form at the bottom of this page. If you would like to request support through the new DREAM emergency fund, please fill out the other google form at the bottom of this page.
DREAM's Updated Health & Safety Policies
Before we know it, the first day of school will be here - and although we’ll be starting the year in remote learning mode, our team remains busy planning for the day when we can finally return in person. Regardless of when that is, we’re committed to getting it right. That’s why I wanted to share with you this video (with Spanish subtitles), updating you on some of the new health & safety policies that you can expect to see in place next time you’re at a DREAM site.
A STATEMENT ON RECENT EVENTS
Today, and always, DREAM stands with the black community.
DREAM’s founding purpose was to provide the black and brown youth of East Harlem with a safe space in which to play, learn, and grow. Our mission to level the playing field is realized only when our students grow into adults with the opportunity to exercise their agency and power in pursuit of their dreams.
But what becomes of our children if we ask them to live in a world that refuses to see or accept their potential?
DREAM cannot remain silent against unconscionable acts of racial violence. Racism traumatizes and endangers our community, breeding disparities in education, healthcare, housing, and employment that have become amplified during this pandemic. We stand in solidarity with those determined to end systemic racism, and recommit to examining, with humility and diligence, how our own practices can become ever more inclusive.
Racial equity begins by acknowledging our shared humanity. To our community: We stand with you and grieve with you. And always, we dream with you.

DREAM’s current plans for the 2020-21 school year is to begin early, on August 24, and to plan for at least the first month of instruction to be remote. Here's what you can expect in the coming months:
Reopening health & safety: We've sent all DREAM families a video that shares the health and safety precautions we'll be mandating across our schools when in-person return is possible, you can also see this posted above.
Family Town Halls: Thank you to everyone who joined us at last week's Town Halls. It was a lot of information to take in - and as always, we are grateful for your thoughtful questions and your patience as plans for the 2020-21 school year begin to come into focus. If you weren’t able to join us, or want to review any of the content, you can find a recording of the Town Hall right here and the Town Hall slide deck right here. As promised, we’re sharing a brief survey about the new school year. It’s crucial that you complete this survey by Wednesday, August 5 so that we can schedule and plan for the coming months. Our goal is to achieve 100% family participation in this survey.
Family orientations: Our Family & Community Engagement team and principals will lead orientation sessions to prepare you for the school year.
Family visits: We will continue our practice of family visits, but this time via Zoom. You'll have a chance to meet with a member of your school team so we can learn more about your child and your family. We’ll also talk about how we can best support your DREAM scholar.
Family office hours: The week before school begins, we will host office hours so you have a chance to ask questions and get all the information you need to start the school year off right.
Family Support Groups: Our Family & Community Engagement team will continue to hold support groups for families throughout the summer in order for families to continue learning from and supporting one another.
Over the summer, we’ll continue hosting food distribution at 1991. Come pick up every Tuesday from 2-5 PM, on a first-come first-served basis, no RSVP necessary.
We’ll continue hosting family support groups (and other virtual gatherings) over the summer, so continue looking out for Zoom invitations.
As we prepare for the 2020-21 school year, we need your input. If you haven’t yet, please complete our DREAM Reopening Survey to help us understand what our families want and need as we plan for the fall. We really need to hear from all families, so thank you in advance for taking a few minutes with this survey.
Virtual REAL Kids (Elementary) and DREAM University (MS) Programming is underway. Please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
