A message from DREAM
October 13, 2020
When are we coming back?
It’s a question we’ve all heard—and asked ourselves—more than a few times over the past seven months. It’s a question we’ve spent many long days working to answer, together. And deep down, we’ve likely all had more difficult moments, moments when that question became: Are we ever coming back?
Today, we finally have our answer. Today, we are back.
Today is a day we have fought for, a day that would not be possible without the ceaseless work of each and every one of you. Our teachers, school leaders, and program staff, who have shown up with such bravery. Our Facilities teammates, who put themselves on the line to do the on-the-ground work necessary to get our buildings ready for this moment. Our Family Engagement teammates, who have worked early mornings, late nights, and everything in between, texting, calling, and Zooming. But more than anything, we couldn’t have done any of this without you, our families. Thank you—for your trust, your patience, your partnership. You were there every step of the way, logged on and tuned in, moving mountains for your scholars. We are in awe of you, and so grateful.
This is a special day, as we begin to welcome scholars back in-person and continue our work with our families who remain remote. At the same time, we are continuing to plan, every day, for what the next few months may hold for our community, our city, and our nation.
Today, though, we have so many reasons for joy and gratitude. Today, we begin to welcome back our scholars—masked, socially distanced, but together at last. Today, we can once again give them the safe, in-person learning experience every child needs, and deserves. Today, we are coming home.

Latest Updates from DREAM
Updated October 8, 2020
Please see this document for the in-person schedules for each grade, the first days of in-person school for each grade level, and a calendar overview of our first two weeks of hybrid scheduling. If your family has opted to remain fully remote, this new schedule will not apply to you.
Virtual Town Halls: Thank you so much for joining us at our previous virtual Family Town Halls. We’re grateful for your presence and your thoughtful questions. If you’re interested in reviewing a recording of the evening session, where we were fortunate to be joined by Dr. Adam Ratner, Director of NYU Langone’s Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, you can find that recording in English here and in Spanish here. The slide deck from the Town Hall is posted here.
Student ID Photos: As we start the school year, we want to make sure your scholars have their student IDs ready. This is for all students, including those who have opted for 100% remote learning (except for returning high school students who already have IDs). Send your scholar’s ID photo to firstname.lastname@example.org (East Harlem) or email@example.com (Mott Haven) or text the photo to 718-496-7693 as soon as possible. Include their first and last name, grade, and school. If you are unable to provide a photo of your scholar for any reason, we will have limited capacity to take their photo at materials pickup on 10/8 or 10/9. Here are some tips for taking an ID photo:
Select a well-lit room with a white or light background.
The photo should be shoulder-width and facing forward
Should be a clear photo of student's face (no hats, hoodies, or anything with a large logo)
New Yorkers can now sign up for a COVID-19 antibody survey appointment. Click here to register or call 1-888-279-0967.

Governor Cuomo has released a statement announcing that New York State schools are authorized to reopen for in-person instruction this fall if the rate of infection in their communities remains below 5%. In DREAM's case, the announcement changes very little, please continue to look out for updates as they relate to our reopening plan.
The DREAM is Family Fund
As the impact of the pandemic continues to grow, DREAM has launched an emergency assistance program for our families. This program is intended to give direct financial relief to support financial and other needs made greater by the pandemic. We are still taking applications for this fund. If you applied to receive emergency financial assistance, we are working hard to make sure we can meet needs as quickly as possible. You’ll hear back from us soon.
