Dream family Hub

Welcome to the DREAM Family Hub!

As we navigate this time together, the maxim “DREAM Is Family” has never meant more. In these unprecedented times, the safety and well-being of the entire DREAM community remains our first priority. On this website you will find important updates, information, assistance, and resources.

Latest Updates from DREAM

*NEW* dream travel policy

  • Holiday Travel Policy: If you have any questions about how DREAM’s travel policy applies to your family, don’t hesitate to reach out to your Family Engagement Manager or familysupport@wearedream.org. To help you find convenient and free or low-cost testing options, please consult our Student COVID Testing Guide.

  • Thanksgiving- DREAM is working towards announcing a date when it will be safe for us to return to in-person learning. We want to stress that avoiding nonessential travel over the Thanksgiving holiday will be crucial to ensuring this goal of safely reopening our doors as soon as possible.

  • Winter Holidays- Please note that DREAM updated its travel policy to align with the recently revised NY travel advisory, which now allows travelers from New York to “test out” of the previously required 14-day quarantine period. You can find a detailed overview of our new travel policy here.

          • For the week of Dec 14-18, DREAM will be all-remote to allow your family to quarantine before traveling, if you choose. Remote school will be in session this week - please log on everyday.

          • DREAM has added two days to winter break - December 21 and 22 - to ensure that your scholar has a full two weeks of vacation during this unique year.

          • If your family does travel to an area on the New York advisory list, you have two options for next steps upon your return, in order to be ready to come back to in-person school on January 11:

            • Quarantining for 14 days: Under this option you must be back in NYC by December 28.

            • Or “testing out” of the quarantine period: Under this option we strongly recommend that you plan to be back in NYC by Jan 2. For this option, because the time for getting test results can vary, your family must return to NY with enough time to get a test 4 days after their arrival AND await the negative COVID test result.

            • Please note that neither of the above options apply to scholars who have opted for all-remote learning.

  • School Calendar: For a full schedule overview, as well as additional upcoming days off, please review our school calendar for the next few months. As always, this calendar is subject to change based on external COVID-related factors.

Updated November 30, 2020

School Updates:

  • Travel & Holiday Policy: Please review the above dropdown "*NEW* DREAM TRAVEL POLICY" to learn how DREAM’s travel policy applies to your family this holiday season

  • In-Person Learning: DREAM has reopened our buildings for two more weeks of in-person learning prior to the start of our holiday remote learning plan on December 14.

  • Safety Development: Since we were last in our buildings, according to Governor Cuomo’s latest zone assessment, DREAM Mott Haven is now identified as being located within a yellow zone. These zones are determined by case rates in a school’s neighborhood, not in the school itself. Here’s what the Mott Haven yellow designation means:

      • Any school located within a yellow zone is required to test 20% of its in-person students and staff for COVID-19 over the two-week period immediately following the yellow zone designation. If the test results reveal that the positivity rate among those tested is lower than the yellow zone’s current 7-day positivity rate, testing at that school will no longer be required to continue. DREAM Mott Haven will begin implementing this testing requirement this week; if you have a scholar at Mott Haven, please expect to receive more detailed information on the testing mandate early next week.

      • The yellow zone designation, along with the testing mandate, is a precautionary measure to allow us to play a crucial role in ensuring that our school’s doors can safely remain open. Please note that plenty of schools are operating safely through these zone designations.

  • School Calendar: For a full schedule overview, as well as additional upcoming days off, please review our school calendar for the next few months. As always, this calendar is subject to change based on external COVID-related factors.

  • Direct financial assistance: DREAM is still offering direct financial assistance to families affected financially by COVID-19, while funds allow. If you’re in need of money for rent, bills, medicine, groceries, etc., please fill out this form or visit the DREAM is Family Fund section of our homepage below. Due to the high volume of requests, we’ll be in touch with you in no more than a few weeks.

  • Wintertime preparedness: We know that the colder months can sometimes mean increased household needs, and DREAM is here to help lighten the load. If you’re in need of items like winter coats or shoes, PPE or hand sanitizer, etc., please fill out this form. We’ll be in touch soon about what kind of assistance we can offer.

NYC Updates:

NYC Cluster Zones

On October 6, Governor Cuomo announced a new cluster action initiative to address areas where the COVID-19 infection rate has increased significantly. New York City is implementing restrictions in three zones identified by NYS: red, orange, and yellow. Per the state’s mandate:

      • If DREAM enters a yellow zone: A school is required to conduct random testing of 20% of its students and staff once per week.

      • If DREAM enters an orange or red zone: A school is required to go fully remote until cases drop back down to a level deemed safe by public health officials.

  • Visit NYC Health+Hospitals to find a testing location near you and to check on testing wait times (this PDF refreshes every 2 minutes).

  • New Yorkers can now sign up for a COVID-19 antibody survey appointment. Click here to register or call 1-888-279-0967.

  • SNAP COVID-19 Information: Please use this link to learn more about the P-EBT food benefits for New York State residents.

  • DREAM Asthma Workshop: In case you missed our last wellness event, the DREAM Asthma Workshop with Mount Sinai medical professionals on 10/28, check out the recording here. We understand that there is a need in our communities to learn more about asthma and how to combat its effects. We hope this workshops is a useful tool to do just that.

receiving text messages via School Messenger

Last week, School Messenger sent out a text to families to opt in to receiving text messages via School Messenger. Unfortunately, the "opt in" option can only be sent out once. If you did not receive it, or accidentally ignored it because you didn't understand it was from DREAM, you will not receive another text with the option. The flyers below explain the process and provide a code you can text to opt into the service.
